Mayor’s Halloween treat draws hundreds of children, adults

The program started at 4 p.m. and by the time it ended at 7 p.m. over 900 bags of candy were distributed.

“At least people in this area felt that something fun was happening on Halloween,” the mayor said.

He said he will  hold a similar event next year to again cater to community members who cannot go to the American Memorial Park “trunk or treat” event.

Next year, Flores said they might set up a “haunted house canopy” as an added attraction.

On Monday, they had a tent in the parking lot of  Afetna Square in San Antonio.

The tent had accessories, props and other Halloween decorations including “scary” sound effects.

The mayor and his staff wore Halloween costumes as they gave away candy to the children.

Flores, who was dressed as the grim reaper, said he represented the “demise of the garment factories” on Saipan.

His budget and fiscal officer Terry Camacho said the event was part of their community programs for the youth.

Junjun, a child who lives close to the mayor’s office in San Antonio, said he enjoyed the Halloween treats.

“I hope they will do this again,” he added.

Some of them posed with the mayor’s staff for souvenir pictures.

Other parents had to bring their children closer to the tent because the little ones were scared of the “creepy sounds.”
