DFW also arrested three male individuals for illegal possession of a live green sea turtle.
On Aug. 14, 2011, DFW conservation officers while on regular patrol and surveillance of the Marpi Wildlife Conservation Area encountered two individuals in possession of suspicious bags. Upon further investigation, eight live coconut crabs were discovered and that the individuals were without a valid coconut crab hunting permit. This case is still under investigation.
Hunting and fishing within the Marpi Wildlife Conservation Area or any other designated conservation areas are strictly prohibited. Anyone caught hunting or fishing within these areas may be subject to arrest and hefty fines. Please report any unusual activities within these areas to DFW at 664-6030/31 or call 911.
On Aug. 9, 2011, DFW conservation officer while on regular surveillance of the Tanapag lagoon observed three male individuals onboard a small motor-craft vessel.
Upon its return to shore, DFW conservation officer conducted routine inspection of the vessel and discovered the live turtle. Further investigation led to the arrest of all three individuals. This case is still under investigation.
