Ayuyu seeks funds for Rota nurses

In an interview yesterday, Ayuyu, Ind.-Rota, said since the Rota Health Center is included in the emergency declaration, he will “kindly” ask the administration to include the center’s long overdue obligations to its nurses.

Ayuyu said Rota Health Center has yet to pay the nurses’ employer, nurses’ employer, Saipan Employment Agency and Services, over $100,000.

Four days after declaring a state of emergency at the Commonwealth Health Center, acting Gov. Eloy S. Inos reprogrammed $1.7 million from CDA.

The amount represents “unobligated and undisbursed bond earnings and CIP repayment balances,” according to CDA.

Inos, in his letter to CDA Chairman Pete I. Itibus, said “the funds reprogrammed…should be available in the CNMI General Fund in order to prevent the shutdown of critical healthcare services.”

In a separate interview, Senate President A. Manglona, Ind.-Rota, said:  “We support the acting governor in reprogramming this fund to address the emergency situation at CHC. This money is there for appropriation and we can use it for other programs or CIP’s. But I guess with the situation at the hospital, no one will go against this because it is a life and death situation.”
