She said they have organized a “foot patrol” comprising of youths and adults to conduct regular surveillance in their area.

Tenorio said they have also encouraged the youths to go out, exercise and do other productive things.

She said their presence outside will deter the commission of crimes in the area.

“Since we have a small village people know each other and we’ll know if there are suspicious looking persons around,” she said.

During their recent meeting, Tenorio reported to the Neighborhood Watch Task Force about the awareness program in Chalan Kanoa and Susupe.

She said they continue to encourage meetings with other block captains in nearby villages to strengthen the island’s anti-crime campaign.

In beach areas of Chalan Kanoa, she said, they also intensified the “visibility” of anti-crime crusaders.

“We rove every night and randomly conduct surveillance,” she added.

Community members are very supportive, she said, adding that people need to know about the importance of neighborhood collaboration.
