Team CNMI currently ranks third in Pool B and was scheduled to play Guam yesterday, but their match was postponed due to rain.
In a meeting with Guam district administrator Stephen Guerrero and other officials, team CNMI’s manager Chel Castro said their game will continue today, 8:30 p.m. at the Northern Regional Sports Complex.
Yesterday’s match only lasted to the bottom of the first, with the CNMI up at the plate. Both All-Star teams waited half an hour before the game was called off, according to Castro.
South Korea remains undefeated in Pool B with five wins. Guam ranks second with two wins and one loss. Both the Philippines and Hong Kong are out of the race at one win and three losses each.
“So far, they (CNMI All-Stars) look good,” Castro told Variety in a phone interview. “I told them, ‘If you really want it, then take it from them.’”
As of yesterday, Craig Aguon is recovering from a fever and may be back on the field today. Nathan Camacho played as the CNMI’s starting pitcher after completing his required amount of rest days.
“Guam is tougher than Hong Kong and the Philippines. I saw their pitchers and they’re good,” added Castro.
The winner of their knockout game will advance to the playoffs against Pool A leader and defending champion Chinese Taipei.
Australia will also play New Zealand today. Should Australia win, a three-way tie will ensue between them and Singapore and Thailand, which both have three wins and two losses.
“If there’s a three-way tie, the number two spot goes to the team with the least allowed runs,” said Castro.
Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei dominated Indonesia, 14-2 in four and a half innings yesterday. Thailand defeated Singapore, 11-3. South Korea swept the Philippines, 10-0.
