Guam priest to speak at Humanities Council fundraiser

In his special remarks entitled “I Korason un Mestisun Amerikano” (“The Heart of a Mixed Chamorro-American”), Pale Eric will reflect on the importance of humanities work from a personal perspective and the significant role the humanities play in understanding and preserving Marianas, Micronesian and Pacific cultural identities.

Pale Eric is a Catholic priest and noted humanities scholar who over the past two decades has researched Marianas history in archives around the world.

He has authored several books on church history in the Mariana Islands and also writes a Chamorro cultural blog at paleric.blogspot.com.

Many people in the CNMI know Pale Eric from his three-year assignment as a parish priest on Saipan in the early 1990s.

In addition to Pale Eric’s remarks, the fundraiser will feature a scrumptious summer cocktail menu, live island music, and an auction of art and photography produced by local artists.

Guests will also have the chance to win thousands of dollars in raffle prizes including a round-trip ticket to Japan from Delta Air Lines, two round-trip tickets to Hong Kong from Fly Guam, and a weekend getaway at the Pacific Islands Club.

Tickets for the council event are available at the council office in Springs Plaza on Middle Road and from council board members.
