Kabiriel, Berger top Silver Streak

“This year mark’s my seventh year of joining the annual Silver Streak fun run. Last year I posted my best time because long time runner Ronald Villafria was there to push me,” said Jack Kabiriel in an interview with the Marianas Variety.

“This year, with the absence of Ronald, I took it easy and cruised down our beautiful island,” added Kabiriel.

When asked which part of the run was his favorite, he replied, “I really liked how it rained this morning while we were running. To me, it made the run even better. This morning’s fun run was a good source of training as it is for me every year.”

Although timing in more than four minutes from last year’s marker, Kabiriel timed in at 27 minutes and one second topping the race followed by well-known runner Mamiko Oshima-Berger at 27:21.

“It rained strong during the early part of the run and this made the road slippery. But the weather suddenly changed and it helped me because I got whiffs of cold air,” said Mamiko Oshima-Berger in an interview with the Marianas Variety.

When asked what the toughest part of the run was, she replied, “It was humid today. But even though it was humid the cold breeze really helped me. It made the running easier and more enjoyable.”

Last Saturday’s Silver Streak competition included 10 age divisions which were the 1-10 years old, 11-20 years old, 21-30 years old, 31-35 years old, 36-40 years old, 41-45 years old, 46-50 years old, 51-55 years old, 56-60 years old, and the 61 and above age category.
