Thea Minor conquered Federated States of Micronesia’s Sophie Finnen, 6-2, 6-0 while Theecel defeated Guam’s Ira Cubi, 6-0, 6-1.
Jones scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Alexander Ornbo. He is currently the NMI’s only netter in the boys 18U division, and is up against Guam’s Emil Penafiel and Kenta Tanimoto.
Theecel faced a minor setback after losing to Palau’s Abigail Gbewonyo, 6-4, 6-1 in her second game.
In the girls 12U division, Negahr Rastguiy downed FSM’s Jennia Panuelo, 6-0, 6-1 and fellow NMI netter Emily Jones, 6-0, 6-1. Jones fell 6-4, 6-4 to another NMI player – Carol Lee. Tammy Ackerman took on Lee and came on the winning end, 6-3, 7-6.
The girls 15U division was divided into two pools, each having two players from the NMI. In pool A, Mikayla Lopez fended off Guam’s Jilliane Tapel 6-0, 6-0, and FSM’s Danielle Adams, 6-0, 6-0. Alina Ishikawa followed suit and defeated Alyssa Bristol, 6-1, 6-2 and Tapel, 6-0, 6-0.
Pool B’s NMI netter Jazmin Rayphand lost twice to Guam’s Camden Nadler (6-2, 6-0) and Annette Kang (6-3, 6-1). Melody Johnson outran both Kang (6-3, 6-2) and Emanuelle Haurillon (6-1, 6-0).
No opposing team stood a chance in the boys 15U division as Christian Miller bested Guam’s Jeremiah Nelsen (6-1, 6-0). Seiya Eda took on another Guam netter – Ryan Freeman – and won, 6-4, 6-1. NMI’s Amani Sakano also crushed Brian Tuncap (6-0, 6-0) and David Panuelo (6-0, 6-0).
Games will continue for the rest of the week until Friday, June 17. The top finishers in each age and gender group will make up the 18-player North Pacific Team that will compete in the Pacific Oceania Junior Championships and Oceania Closed Junior Championships held in Lautoka, Fiji from August 8 to 19.
