Saipan Rotary Club to offer training, business workshops to students

In a presentation during the Saipan Rotary Club meeting at the Hyatt, club services director Laila Y. Boyer said they plan to start the training in September this year, with a student-led project due in Feb. 2012 and a wrap up in May next year.

Boyer said  the goal of this partnership with PSS and NMTI is “to create a pool of job-ready applicants for specific local industries.”

The Saipan Rotary Club will also team up with the PSS career technical education program to create a two-week business workshop for aspiring entrepreneurs. At the workshop, Rotarians will serve as mentors. Boyer said the goal of this business workshop is to ignite and encourage the spark of interest in business among 15 to 20 high school students.

Boyer said with the CNMI undergoing a major transformation in regards to its workforce, immigration and labor due to the recently implemented federalization law, the Rotary Club will continue to implement a series of projects that will assist the less fortunate in these hard economic times.

In addition, the Rotary Club services program will continue to remain focused on providing programs to “gel” the team together, and continue with its sports program to encourage wellness and fellowship.

The Rotary Club of Saipan has been actively involved in a lot of fundraising projects and activities that benefited the community since it was established in 1968.

In line with this year’s theme “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity,” these new programs will be implemented under the new set of officers for 2011-2012 led by president-elect Pete Igitol who were sworn into office at the Fiesta Resort & Spa last night.
