WPS presented their end of the school year plays “The Yellow Submarine” —performed by K-3rd graders — and “The Little Mermaid” performed by 4th -8th graders.
The end of the year plays are an annual event for WPS.
“Every year, we have a run through in the morning with the manamko’ as audience. They love coming,” said Tom Weindl, WPS principal.
The students and faculty use the morning show as a dress and technical rehearsal. The official show stages in the evening.
In regards to the show, member of the audience Mary Alen Conrad tells Variety, “It was very, very good. Especially Ariel!”
Rebekah Hayden, teacher at WPS, explains the reason behind having four different Ariels, two Erics, three Flounders, and a few more multiples of characters throughout the play.
“That way all the kids have a part. Otherwise, with a play like Ariel, it would just be one student with most of the lines,” she says.
Proud of the students and the productions, Hayden adds, “Every year the kids work really hard to put the plays together. It’s hard enough at the end of the year to try to put things into memory but they put a lot of effort into it.”
“We actually had another play planned at first but the eighth grade class [made up of four girls and one boy] really wanted to do the ‘Little Mermaid’ as their grand finale play,” says Rob Epley, fourth and fifth grade teacher.
He also mentions that as an end of the year event, WPS students will be enjoying their day today at the Saipan World Resort waterpark.
