Late-game surge saves Angels in Game 3

Jesus Iguel, Peter Tomokane, and first baseman Benwachi Taisacan each hit run-scoring singles to stun the Tan Holdings Brewers, 9-7 in game three of their Saipan Major League championship series.

Mike Pangelinan’s strikeout ended the Brewers in eight and a half innings.

Relief pitcher Franco Flores struck out five in four innings and gave up one run on four hits as the Angels pulled away from their late-game rally.

Roy Celis earlier scored the Angels’ fifth run on an RBI single while the Brewers led, 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh. They scored the first run on Asap Wabol’s sacrifice fly and endured an empty fourth inning prior to their hitting spree. A five-run fifth inning seemed to be the Brewers’ ticket to victory. With loaded bases at hand, Kevin Kapileo delivered an RBI single followed by Byron Kaipat’s two-run single.

Tomokane went 2-for-5 with two runs, Taisacan went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base, and Celis went 3-for-5 with one RBI.

Tomokane bagged two of his three RBI from a single in the bottom of the fifth.

The Angels went scoreless in the first four innings but advanced on a couple walks. They lost game one, 9-4 last week but recovered with a 13-4 win on Wednesday night.
