Battay 64, Mix-A-Lot 45 in women’s caging

Nicole Arborillas, Jaime Mendoza, and Lily Williams made quick work of the first half, landing double digit scores before the final buzzer.

Mix-A-Lot’s Lalaine Pagarao couldn’t repeat last week’s victory over the Party Rockers despite her 14 points and a game high 21 from Mercedes Mesa.

Pagarao tallied 11 points in the first half and mustered three more.

Arborillas led Aye Par Battay with 14 points, Mendoza and Williams earned 12 each, and Jeralyn Castillo and Mae Ito added eight apiece. Vanessa Bartolo hammered two free throws to aid the team.

Even with more players, Mendoza didn’t think it was vital to their win.

“On our very first game, we just had five players and the other team had subs. But we still won. So more players isn’t really an advantage. We just need teamwork,” she told Variety.

Pagarao’s late game absence took a toll on the Mix-A-Lots, with Mesa taking no breaks through the 20-minute second half. Mesa scored 15 with two each from Maria Iriarte, Manese, and Chezka De Luna.

Ito capped the evening with a jump shot against De Luna. Karen Ito fired away on two more layups.
