Basketball Facts and Principles: Rules

Others will most likely be confused and complain due to athletes they see on television. Most rules you understand are governed by different major associations.

The National Basketball Association for example, is all about commercial entity and is known for the “traveling phenomenon” seen on many slam dunks.

Rules in the National Collegiate Athletic Association are based on the “attack philosophy”:

1.    A study of principles underlying the actions and behavior in the offensive plays of a team.

2.    The attitude of coaches favoring the offensive part of the game and depreciating the defensive part of it.

In the International Basketball Association (FIBA), rules are based on advantages and disadvantages in the court.

Specific types of regulations are applied in the Philippine Basketball Association. Recently, players from the United States and other foreign countries have been eligible to play in the PBA.

Note: Players need not be depressed at their first loss or problems in the court. Players need to grasp the sense of team play. A player, no matter of how great his unique technical and physical skills are, cannot win a game by himself. He needs the help of the team, and with a definite role inside the team.

Teamwork and team plays are surely at the base of basketball.
