Chamber minimum wage survey to begin July 15

Chamber executive director Richard A. Pierce, who was yesterday’s speaker at the Rotary Club of Saipan meeting at the Hyatt, said setting a prevailing wage rate in the CNMI is very important so business owners will not be using the prevailing wage rate on Guam, Hawaii and the U.S. mainland as basis.

He said  the prevailing wage rates of these states are very high and should not apply to the  CNMI.

“We want to start with the survey by July 15, have the results tabulated, copyrighted and shared to the respondents by the end of August, or early September,” Pierce said.

He assures business operators that the survey is not complicated and all the information gathered will be strictly confidential.

Pierce urged the Rotarians to join today’s chamber of commerce monthly meeting at the Saipan Grand Hotel at 11:30 a.m., and the free presentation at the multi-purpose center at 1:30 p.m. today.

He said Andy Andrus, executive director for the Guam Employers Council, will speak about conducting a comprehensive survey of wages, salaries and benefits in the CNMI.

Pierce said he has also contacted the Society for Human Resource Management-CNMI chapter, the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, bankers, and business operators who will be joining the presentation which will be followed by a question and answer at the multi-purpose center.

“I am inviting you all to join us today so all the business sectors will be well represented,” Pierce said.
