Aces rout Fielders, await Hustlers in Big League finals

Manas went 2-for-3 with two singles and a run and teammate Eli Aughenbaugh went 2-for-4 to lead the Aces’ offense. Starting pitcher Harry Nakamura bagged one RBI at the top of the fifth but couldn’t return home after Rocco Reyes’ third out.

Fielders’ Juan Maratita reached the scoring position at the bottom of the first but was unable to complete the run.

Nakamura struck out five, walked two in the third and fourth innings, and gave up no runs on three hits.

Both Jesse Yamagishi and Manas advanced to third and second base, respectively following a balk called on Maratita.

Yamagishi advanced via error, with the latter scoring their final run on a wild pitch at the top of the sixth.

Aughenbaugh nearly bagged the Aces’ fourth run but was out at third base.

The Aces will be taking on the Island Apparel-Kagman Mobile Station Hustlers on Saturday’s championship match at 12 p.m. A consolation game for third and fourth place will be played between the Fielders and Natibu Sports Association Northern Stars at 9 a.m. on the same day.

The top seeded Stars took a stunning loss last Monday after falling to the Hustlers, 7-6 in 15 innings.

Fielders 11, Hunters 5

In a later game, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation Fielders put an end to the Saint Michaels Medical Response Hunters to reach the Senior League’s championship round.

Catcher Peter Lieto went 2-for-4 with three runs and the Fielders dominated, 11-5 in six and a half innings.

The top-ranked fielders, taking 11 regular season wins and only one loss, rallied with a four-run third inning to lead, 5-1.

James Aldan – replacing second baseman Alonso Pedro – scored two RBI at the bottom of the third and reached first base via fielder’s choice. Carl Camacho had earlier sent Lieto home on a sacrifice fly and Patrick Tenorio followed with a run-scoring bunt.

Starting pitcher Clayton Aguon bagged the Hunters’ first run on Lieto’s error at the top of the third. Thomas Reyes and Ian Lizama squeezed in two consecutive run-scoring singles two innings later.

Lieto shut the Hunters down with his second triple of the day, landing two RBI from Jared Lizama and Ricardo Villagomez. Camacho drove Lieto in on a sacrifice bat to secure the game at the bottom of the sixth.

Tenorio struck out six, allowed one run, and walked three. Camacho replaced him at the top of the fourth and struck out four.

On Sunday, 12 p.m., the Fielders will face today’s winner between the Tan Siu Lin Foundation-Rep. Fred Deleon Guerrero-Rep. Ramon Basa Kagman Lions and CTS Ol’ Aces. The losing team will play the Hunters in a consolation game at 9 a.m. on the same day.

The Hunters posted five wins and seven losses in this year’s regular season.
