CUC: Some areas in Garapan now have 24-hour water

“For 35 years, customers in this area have lived with the inconvenience of reduced pressure and service hours,” he said.

Recently, CUC’s division of water and wastewater personnel conducted a water improvement service, he added.

This was focused on Western Garapan, from Micro Beach Road south to Corporal Derence Jack Street, south to Happy Market, west to Hard Rock Café and back north to Shenanigans.

Fletcher said CUC’s field technicians recently surveyed about 2 miles of pipeline in the Garapan area.

“Crews found and repaired six leaks in mainline pipe and service laterals, and surveyed 38 values and 24 fire hydrants,” he added.

He said  any inoperable valves and hydrants were scheduled for repair.

Prior to the system improvements, water service was only available three hours a day, from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., for the Western Garapan customers.

Fletcher said “while progress has been made, we still have a lot of water system work to accomplish, so customers may occasionally experience service reductions during construction or when field crews shift water between service zones.”

In addition to Western Garapan, CUC has also been providing extended service hours to Capital Hill customers.

Fletcher said the service enhancement on Capital Hill was the result of the additional wells that CUC crew repaired and put back on line.

Before, Capital Hill customers received up to 13 hours of water service a day, Fletcher said.

“We are currently able to provide the Capital Hill customers 24-hour water service as well,” he added.

CUC water operation’s engineer Travis Spaeth said they are  continuing to “trouble-shoot the Western Garapan area and other parts of the island to provide better water service to all customers.”
