6.3 percent decline in April car sales

The Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association reports for April showed that the island’s three car dealers sold  44 brand new units compared to the 47 sold in April last year.

Last month’s brand new vehicles sold included 17 sedans, 12 trucks, 3 vans and 12 sport utility vehicles.

Microl Corp. led the sales with 19 brand new cars, representing 43.18 percent of the market share. Joeten Motors sold 16, claiming a 36.36 percent share of the market while Triple “J” Motors sold 9, representing the remaining 20.45 percent of the market share.

Toyota remained the top choice among consumers, with 18 units sold. Nissan followed with 8, Mazda with 5, Hyundai and Kia with 4 each, Ford and Honda with 2 each, and 1  each for Hyundai and Chevrolet.

From January to April 2011, the three car dealers  sold  175 brand new vehicles consisting of 67 sedans, 45 trucks, 11 vans, 47 SUVs, and 5 others.

This year’s sales showed a 23.58 percent decline from the total 229 brand new vehicles sold for the same period in 2010.

Last month, the three dealers also sold 27 used vehicles, bringing the total to 88 used vehicles sold from January to April. Triple “J” Motors sold 11, Microl Corp. 10, and Joeten Motors 6.

Microl Corp. distributes Toyota and Chevrolet. Joeten Motors sells Nissan, Ford, Honda, Kia and other car brands, while Triple “J” is the local dealer of Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki, Mazda and others.
