Freedom Air to suspend flights to Rota

Freedom Air has no flights from May 1 to 9.

Rep. Teresita A. Santos, Ind.-Rota, confirmed this after inquiring at the Freedom Air office regarding her flight on May 1.

She said she was scheduled to attend a proclamation signing on Rota but was told that  the Freedom Air flight would be temporarily suspended from May 1 to 9 for routine maintenance.

“My main concern is what happens if there is a medical emergency case,” she said.

Santos is asking Freedom Air to continue servicing Rota by utilizing a small plane.

In the past, she noted, the airline used its small plane to transport passengers to Rota whenever the Short 360 was undergoing routine maintenance.

A Rota resident, who declined to be identified, said the suspension of flights will greatly affect the island.

“I think it’s something more than routine maintenance because I heard they will extend it until May 15,” the resident said.

Cape Air suspended its passenger air service to Rota in October last year to perform aircraft maintenance. It said it will resume its service this June.
