Alingano Maisu departs from Yap

The traditional Polynesian type canoe will make a brief stop in Ngulu Atoll before continuing on to homeport in Palau. The Alingano Maisu will also be discharging passengers from Ngulu Island who are accompanying the crew from Yap on this trip.

Several passengers from Yap who are going to Palau are also traveling onboard with the crew.

The voyage is part of the non-instrument navigation program at Palau Community College, sponsored by Micronesian Voyaging Societ. MVS is led by Shalum Etpison.

The voyage aims to provide an on hand experience for the voyaging students from PCC who are observing and learning from the crew the basic of traditional navigation including safety at sea.

Writers and photographers from the National Geographic Magazine who are part of the crew when the Alingano Maisu departed from Koror to sail to Satawal in the early part of April are covering the trip.
