4 exchange students from Japan to arrive tomorrow

The students, according to Yoichi Matsumura of Pacific Development Inc., are expected to arrive at the Saipan airport on the afternoon flight from Narita.

“Members of the Rotary Club of Saipan will be meeting the students,” Matsumura told the Variety.

The students, Mika Sunouchi, Yuki Oshima, Kie Inoue and Umi Asazuma, will be joining the community at the Taste of the Marianas  at American Memorial Park tomorrow night.

Matsumura said they will also join the Sophia/Fiesta Walk & Fun Run at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, and enjoy a day at the Pacific Islands Club water park.

On Monday and Tuesday, Matsumura said the students will visit Kagman High School and meet with local students.

“We are glad that they still decided to go on with the exchange program. These students come from one of the most badly hit areas of the tsunami and they suffered without water, gasoline and other basic necessities for weeks,” Matsumura said.

The four students are the first to visit Saipan from Japan under the Rotary Club student exchange program.

Local Rotarians will host the students for the first two nights, and the visitors will spend their last two nights here at the Saipan Grand Hotel. They are also scheduled to make a courtesy call at the Saipan Rotary Club during its meeting at the Hyatt on May 17.

Matsumura said the students will depart on May 18.

PDI will shoulder the transfer and incident costs during the students’ stay on island.
