The grant application was submitted by the CNMI Department of Commerce on behalf of the governor on Oct. 29, 2010.
“This grant opportunity will assist us in opening a Rate Review Office that will expedite the development of a rate review process for all health insurance carriers because the CNMI currently lacks the resources to monitor Market Reform changes from HHS and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners,” stated Press Secretary Angel Demapan.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act mandated market reforms for the health insurance industry, an improvement to health care in all 50 states including Washington, D.C.
Acting Secretary of Commerce, Sixto K. Igisomar, for his part, said,:“The entire CNMI is appreciative of the grant award and all credit goes to the governor, for his leadership, as well as the technical assistance of the Commerce staff, former Secretary of Commerce Michael J. Ada, representatives from HHS, and members of National Association of Insurance Commissioners.”
