The event will take place this Sunday starting at 6 p.m. at American Memorial Park.
“Through their continued patronage of our tourism industry, and their investments and businesses, we were able to establish very close relationships and goodwill between CNMI and Japanese families,” the organizers said.
They said “the recent disaster that struck Japan, which caused destruction on a large scale, damaging public and private infrastructure and claiming thousands of precious lives, has caused the world to weep, to grieve and to mourn.”
The prayer vigil, they said, is a way of expressing their deepest condolences and sympathy to the people of Japan.
“We are urging everybody to join our prayers for those lost loved ones, those affected by the tragedy, and those who remain unaccounted for as the search and rescue teams continue their work,” they said.
They are also urging the community to make donations.
They said the Marianas Visitors Authority and the American Red Cross have already expressed their readiness to join the event.
