Flores says Oba movie ‘inspiring’

“It will definitely inspire more people wherever and whenever it is shown. I guarantee that for it has inspired me,” he said.

Following the premiere at the Hollywood Theater on Monday evening, the Japanese film makers joined CNMI government officials and community members for dinner at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Flores said he was excited to have the opportunity to watch a movie about the island’s history.

“Because of this beautifully made movie, Captain Oba’s legacy will live on,” he added.

He said actor Yutaka Takenouchi was outstanding in his role as  Captain Oba.

“You are indeed a great performer and I thank you for doing an excellent job,” he told Yutaka.

In his brief message, the mayor also congratulated the director and the other cast members of the  movie: Takayuki Yamada, Toshiaki Karasawa, Tomoko Nakajima, Mao Inoue, Yoshinori Okada, Sadao Abe, Hideyuki Hirayama.

He also recognized Sean McGowan, Treat Williams, and Daniel Baldwin who played the roles of American soldiers.

The mayor at the same time appreciated the work of Toho Co. Ltd. and Nippon Television Network for making a film that depicts the true meaning of leadership and honor.

“I wish you success on your forthcoming road-show of this wonderful movie in Japan this month and all the other future road-shows in different countries,” Flores said.
