NMI hopes to raise $100K for Japan

Japanese Society of the NMI vice chairman Yoichi Matsumura said they have various fundraising activities lined up.

Since they launched the Japan Disaster Relief fundraising campaign on March 17, they have been getting a lot of support from the community.

Working with the Japanese Society of the NMI in the relief effort is the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Japan Saipan Travel Association, the Marianas Visitors Authority and the governor’s office.

“We are counting on the continuous support of the community,  the business sector, the government and individual supporters to help us reach our goal so we can help our friends at this time of need,” Matsumura said.

On Saturday, Matsumura said they are hosting a radio-thon drive at the Garapan Fishing Base from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

“We will accept all donations throughout the whole day and we will acknowledge the donations on three different radio stations working with us in this fundraiser — KKMP 1440 AM and 92.1 FM, KZMI 101 FM, and KWAW 100.3 FM.

Matsumura said aside from cash donations, they will also accept in-kind donations which they will raffle off to lucky winners. Raffle tickets will be sold during the event on Saturday.

Matsumura said they will turn over all proceeds  to the Japanese Consulate on Saipan.
