Judge Kenneth L. Govendo imposed a $2,000 cash bail on David Arriola after the defendant’s Gerstein, or probable cause, hearing yesterday.
Arriola was charged with one count of disturbing the peace, and two counts of assault and battery.
Detective Peter Aldan said prior to the incident, Arriola asked his wife if she would be sleeping in their room on March 13 at about 10:50 p.m. At that time, the four children were already sleeping, police said.
The wife told Arriola to take a shower because he reeked of liquor.
Arriola started slamming things in their kitchen area, police said.
The victim told Arriola to calm down because he would wake up the neighbors.
She asked Arriola if he was again smoking “ice.”
Arriola held her shoulders, squeezed them tightly and swung his fist at her, police said.
Their daughter woke up and was told by her mother to video-record the incident, but Arriola pushed the girl back to her room, police said.
The wife tried to call police for assistance, but Arriola threatened to kill her, police added.
Arriola later drove out of their apartment in San Antonio and was arrested in Susupe.
Assistant Attorney General Tiberius Mocanu represented the government while Judge Govendo appointed Assistant Public Defender Michael Brown to serve as Arriola’s counsel for yesterday court hearing.
