Pesticide applicator certification exam available at DEQ

If you use insect or pest control products on plants, vegetables, fruits, or flowers; apply a weed-and-feed product to a client’s lawn or spray for insects; use insect or pest control products for the maintenance of resort grounds, golf courses, or greenhouses; apply pesticides to someone else’ property; provide information or consultation about commercial pesticide use; apply, purchase or distribute restricted use pesticides; or apply pesticides in residences, schools or public places; then you are required to get your pesticide applicator certification.

Examinations administered by DEQ are held on the 2nd Monday of each month at 9 a.m. in the DEQ conference room.

Examinations are limited to seven persons per month.  The dates for the next three months are as follows:  April 11, May 9, and June 13, 2011.

Candidates must register at least three working days prior to the scheduled examination date.  Each exam is a written, closed-book examination consisting of 90 multiple choice questions.

Each candidate has up to two  hours to complete the exam.

The minimum passing score is 70 percent.   Results shall be only provided to the candidate in writing by mail within 10 business days.

All certificates are valid for a period of three years.  Pesticide applicators who want to renew their certification must successful complete the examination and submit a completed application form for certification.
