Koreans athletes shine in Tagaman

Raul Trujillo won first place in the men’s 25-29 division, completing the weather-battered course in five hours, 54 minutes, and 29 seconds. Jung Wook Kim clocked in at 4:21:12 to win the 30-34 division.

Local triathlete Lewie Tenorio (3:51:46) earned second place in the 40-44 division, falling next to Mun Sang Hwang’s slightly faster 3:38:07 mark. Yu Hun Park (3:54:58) finished in third.

Another crew of Korean athletes dominated the 45-49 category, with Chang Su Lee posting the fastest time at three hours and 46 minutes. Kyung Ho Choi ended the 2000-meter swim leg in 37:11 before coming in at second place with 3:57:23. Young Keun Lee completed the top three with four hours, four minutes, and 34 seconds – just 10 minutes past fourth-ranked Sung Jim Kim (4:14:52).

50-54 division winners included: Dong In Park (first-3:56:24), Kijong Nam (second-4:27:24), and Jaehyung Choi (4:43:47).

Hyo Sun Lee (4:42:10) stole the spotlight in the 55-59 category, right above Kanichi Yoka (5:22:38) of Japan and Jae Kwang Cho (5:26:09).

Haruo Yamada, also from Japan, ruled the 60-and-over division with five hours, 30 minutes, and 25 seconds.

Nana Umebayashi topped the women’s 25-29 category at 4:42:21, beating Ikumi Gakiya (5:03:18). Just one day after competing, Umebayashi was married to Hiroyuki Koda at Pacific Islands Club’s Sea Breeze Chapel.

Kimiko Hasegawa completed the race in four hours, 30 minutes, and 53 seconds to win the 40-44 division. Sayuri Takemura took the 45-49 title at 5:45:32. Australian triathletes Julia Lendvai (4:57:41) and Denise Marinner (5:15:33) triumphed in the 50-54 and 55-59 divisions, respectively.
