Convicted ‘ice’ dealer to be sentenced in May

Jing Xin Xiao, 41, of Papago will remain in the custody of the Department of Corrections pending his sentencing set for May 21.

Xiao could face the maximum penalty of 25 years.

Documents submitted to the court did not establish how and where Xiao got the methamphetamine hydrochloride.

During the trial, a government witness with a prior conviction, testified that he made drug deals with Xiao for over a year and a half or until his arrest on April 7, 2010.

The witness said he calls Xiao “Hondan” and regularly buys from him ice.

Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke, who represented Xiao tried to discredit the witness, who was convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm, but the jury was convinced that the defendant committed the crime.

Assistant Attorney General Russell Lorfing prosecuted the case.

The prosecution said it was pleased with the jury’s guilty verdict saying the commonwealth should be free from illegal drugs.
