The conference centered on the importance of learning to cope with bullying, school violence, body image and self-esteem and how these affect everyday lives.
Teen Truth advocates JC Pohl and Stephanie J. Armstrong led the conference with video presentations.
Pohl then led a small exercise that showed how bullying affects everyone around them. Students from Rota High School contacted Teen Truth through their Facebook page admitting to bullying and promising change within their community.
Elementary school students were moved that they too logged on to the site to thank Teen Truth for coming to the CNMI.
“Never have I seen a seminar so powerful that it actually touched the hearts of our children. Often, the kids would normally shrug off ‘boring’ seminars. But Teen Truth is a different group,” said a parent who decided to join her daughter in the seminar.
She said she was in tears after JC Pohl told the children to raise their hands if they had ever been bullied — everyone raised their hands.
In addition, the children were taught that it does not matter what others think about your body image but it does matter what you think of yourself.
Teen Truth’s next presentation will be held at Chacha Junior High School and Hopwood Junior High School.
