Hocog leads Jets past Ol’ Aces in Junior League

The junior division’s Jets topped the Ol’ Aces, 3-2, with catcher Kyle Hocog landing the winning run at the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Aces took a 1-2 lead at the top of the third, scoring runs from Jesse Brel and Verlance Secharmidal via error and stole base.

One out into the bottom of the frame, Jets’ left fielder KJ Kalen sent Luwan Reyes to home plate to tie the game.

Both teams, well-focused on their defenses, dashed through the fourth and fifth innings with no runs.

Jets’ pitcher Bret Halstead struck out five and allowed three hits.

Strong win for Hunters

The Saint Michaels Medical Response Hunters blew away the Rep. Rafael Demapan Heats with a 12-0 win on Saturday morning.

The Hunters finished in five innings, ending the game via mercy rule. Pitchers Jerome Reyes and Joseph Atalig struck out six, walked three, and allowed only one hit.

Reyes made a sacrifice bat to drive Ian Lizama in for the Hunters’ first run at the bottom of the first inning. Catcher Palmerson Mongkeya followed with an RBI single, sending Atalig home from the scoring position.

Mongkeya went 2-for-3, leading the pack with three runs, one double, one single, and a stolen base. First baseman Thomas Reyes and Tommy Reyes drew two runs apiece. Lizama, Jesse Deleon Guerrero, Jeremy Atalig, and Robert Tudela added one each.

Fielders crush Jets, 9-3 in Senior League

The senior division’s Jets took a hard fall after losing, 9-3 to the Tan Siu Lin Foundation Fielders in another game.

Lucio Kalen hit a single, stole to second base, reached the scoring position via wild pitch, and returned to home plate to boost the Jets, 0-1 at the bottom of the first.

The Fielders thrived on two RBI singles from catcher Peter Lieto and a run-scoring single from Poland Masaharu by the top of the second. Masaharu returned home on an error by Jets’ AJ Cabrera.

Center fielder Kenta Castro replied with a pair of RBI singles for the Jets, driving Tyler Kaipat and Jonathan Inacio in.

The Fielders led 5-3 by the top of the third and added four more runs from the fourth and fifth innings. Despite being hit twice by pitchers Tyler Kaipat and Brian Camacho, Alex Aldan got away with two runs and a single. Masaharu went 3-for-4 with three singles, two stolen bases, and two runs.

47 players compete in Home Run Derby

The Saipan Little League Baseball Association accompanied its scheduled games with a Home Run Derby on Thursday, with 47 participants competing for trophies and prize money.

12-year-old Benjamin Maratita topped the majors division, beating second-ranked Jadrien Camacho. Red Sox’s Jesse Sablan pulled to third place, followed by Nathan Camacho.

Fielders’ Ian Rogolifoi struck two home runs to top the juniors division and Nathan Sablan hit one to win second place. Kobby Kaipat fought off Jerald Cabrera in a tiebreaker round to secure third place.

It took Carl Camacho another tiebreaker to beat Jake Flores for first place in the senior division. Camacho, playing for the Fielders, hit a total of seven home runs. Jets’ Brian Camacho stormed to third place and RJ Villagomez took fourth.

18-year-old Northern Starz pitcher Josh Jones conquered an 11-man pool in the big division. Fielders’ KJ Villagomez, a year younger than Jones, took second place with seven home runs followed by Keoni Lizama (third place) and Eli Aughenbaugh (fourth place).
