Introduced by Rep. Trenton B. Conner, R-Tinian, House Local Bill 17-32 appropriates $15,000 for Tinian Elementary School’s participation in the Chamorro Language Competition on Guam; $10,000 for Tinian High School’s participating in the same competition; and $1,000 for the school’s Japan student exchange program.
The local bill also appropriates $27,000 “to defray the operational costs” of the Tinian legislative delegation.
The expenditure authorities for the off-island competition funding are the principals of the two schools while the expenditure authority for the Tinian delegation is its chairman, Senate Vice President Jude U. Hofschneider.
In an interview on Saturday, acting Gov. Eloy S. Inos said the delegation has the authority to determine how to spend the money.
As long as the fund is appropriated for public purpose and is not wasted or abused, Inos said such appropriation is “certainly within the purview” of the Tinian delegation.
The funding source is from Tinian, he added.
