The Lady Ayuyus clinched the first set, 26-24 and the third, 15-8 to hand GCA its fourth loss. Both teams tied
15-15 in the opening round, trading one-point leads. The Eagles clawed for the game point but were stopped by Jemma Lara’s spikes. Despite taking the second set, GCA couldn’t help but crumble to Kagman High’s aggressive offense.
The Ayuyus – led by head coach Emy Quitugua – consist of Rita Taitano, Mercy Mesa, Elilai Pialing, Maria, Nicole Ichihara, Jemma Lara, Lenny Selepeo, Lara San Nicolas, Katelyn Aldan, and Jena Faisao.
Saipan International School also crushed the Eagles 25-16, 25-20, and 15-2 last Thursday. The unbeaten Geckos boast a perfect eight win, no loss record.
Kagman High lost its first game to Saipan Southern High School. KHS dominated 25-16 in the first set but lost 16-25 and 9-15 afterward. The Manta Rays now have two wins and are scheduled for two games tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Marianas High School 1 outran its sister team, MHS 2 in a flawless match. MHS 1 rallied 10 points ahead before pulling away in the first set. They won 25-9, 25-11, and 15-11 in sets one to three.
Regular season games will continue tomorrow, Feb. 8 and on Thursday, Feb. 10.
