Mayor’s office, DPW, CRM conduct cleanup

Saipan Mayor Donald G. Flores said his team of eight personnel headed by John Aldan was assisted by staffers of the Department of Public Works and Coastal Resources Management.

He said they had to combine forces to maximize personnel and equipment.

They cleared the roadside of overgrown vegetation to maintain the safety of motorists in As Lito and Finasisu, Flores added.

Saipan Covenant Reps. Ralph S. Demapan and Raymond D. Palacios also sent their personnel to join the cleanup.

DPW supervisor Dennis Davis said they used a boom mower in clearing the roadside of vegetation.

One lane of Tun Joaquin Doi Road was closed during the cleanup.

Davis said the motorists were not informed about the inconvenience since the lane closure was only for a few hours.

“It’s for the safety of the motorists, he said. “They should be patient with this kind of situation.”

Luis Duenas, CRM chief enforcement officer, said they ensured that debris did not spill into a nearby wetland.
