Economic Restoration Summit to discuss eco-tourism

Jim Arenovski of Delta Management Corp. yesterday said during the Saipan Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Fiesta Resort & Spa that since the last economic restoration summit in 2009, more work has  been done in the four industries of agriculture, aquaculture, education tourism and call centers.

Arenovski said the potential to make eco-tourism a large industry in the CNMI is big.

“We will be bringing in industry experts and local practitioners to talk about the latest developments and what work it out with the local practices here,” he said.

The CNMI Economic Restoration Summit of 2011 will be held at the Saipan World Resort on March 22-23.

Arenovski said the summit will bring to the island experts in the different industries and is expected to draw a lot of participants from various sectors.

On the second day of the summit, participants will be divided to have group discussions in the different industries so they can work on specific plans for their industries.

The Northern Marianas College- Cooperative Research and Extension Education Service is the lead entity under the agriculture and aquaculture industry.  For the education tourism industry, NMC and private schools operate individually to focus on compatible niche market of tourism, potential target markets identified as China, Russia, the Philippines, Japan and Korea.

The call center industry continues to become potentially ideal because of its ability to outsource globally, taking advantage of the lower labor cost and natural time zone differences.

Arenovski said the goals for this year’s economic summit is to bring together various sectors of the community, provide insight from local and industry experts, work together to discuss strengths and opportunities of each industry, and develop a plan based on actionable items and create viable options for the economy.

Participants who will register before March 18 will get a chance to join a raffle promo with attractive prizes.

Arenovski said sponsors are also welcome at the Economic Restoration Summit. For more information, email [email protected].
