The 2011 Docomo Pacific United Basketball Association’s Men’s Basketball League is ready to go down in history today with the return of last season’s Champions, team Prospect.
There will no longer be an opening ceremony for this season’s UBA league instead there will be a closing ceremony.
There were several teams that have or may have players that won’t be able to make it to the first two games due to work related reasons as some private sectors do not observe Martin Luther Kings Day.
The first game of the league will be a bout between Champions Prospect vs. Hoopaholics. Second game is scheduled to kick off shortly thereafter between team IT&E Fundamentalists vs. NMC Proa.
Rollers vs. Ol Aces will come head to head during the third game and the last game of the day will be the much awaited competition between IP&E Konflikt vs. Mobil.
Uniforms for all players must be ready today. Uniforms must have a number in the front as well as the back. Again, if the teams do not comply with this, they will be subjected to a forfeit game.
The league will follow the Round Robin format where all teams play each other once. A single elimination playoff between the top eight teams will then reign.
ALL games will be played indoors at the Gilbert C. Ada. There are several reasons for the change of location; one is to have a better controlled environment, such as the weather, which causes delay of games when rain occurs.
Second is the crowds and safety control for the players, officials as well as the fans, who have witnessed on several incidents that had occurred in various outdoor leagues such as riots and/or alcohol consumption in public area.
$1000 in cash, a trophy, and a free entrance to the next season’s tournament is up for grabs for the worthy champions of the competition. The finals regular season’s most valuable player will also receive a trophy, cell phone, and much more.
