Each school elects one youth senator.
The Youth Congress used to have 25 seats but Public Law 17-22, which was enacted last October, reduced these to 10 or based on the number of participating public and private high schools.
Legislative Bureau Director Glenna SP. Reyes said as required by the law — which also postponed last year’s Youth Congress election — school principals will conduct the election on March 7.
She said the principals will determine the polling places and the duration of the entire election process.
The election results, she added, will be verified by the principals and certified by House Floor Leader George N. Camacho, Ind.-Saipan, within three days after the election.
The youth senators will assume office on April 17.
Reyes said the number of registered voters for the 13th Youth Congress election is 1,114.
At Grace Christian Academy, there are 34 voters; Kagman High School, 313; Marianas Baptist Academy, 27; Marianas High School, 209; Rota High School, 98; Saipan Southern High, 38; and Tinian High School, 39.
Other high schools do not have candidates.
