Help fight cervical cancer

The Department of Public Health Immunization Program, together with its partners in the Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition, is once again offering free HPV vaccinations to junior high and high school girls throughout the CNMI.

The HPV vaccine protects against the types of Human Papilloma Virus that most often cause cervical cancer.

According to Public Health, the incidence rate of cervical cancer in the CNMI is nine times higher than the national average, with one woman being diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer every seven weeks.

Volunteers are needed to assist with registration on Jan. 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Chacha Junior High School and Kagman High  School.  There will be a brief volunteer orientation starting at 8:30 a.m. at each school.

To sign up as a volunteer, or for more information, contact Joanne Ogo at 236-8728, or the Commonwealth Cancer Association at 682-0050 or email [email protected] .
