(DYS) — What do home runs, cheering crowds, and bright purple jerseys have in common? They all came together to raise awareness for a cause that truly matters. The Division of Youth Services, under the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, proudly wrapped up three powerful and positive softball tournaments across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota — all aimed at striking out Teen Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, and Sexual Abuse of a Minor.
It all started on Rota, where the Strike Out the Violence Youth and Family Softball Tournament launched the movement from Feb. 6 to 9, 2025 bringing out families, students, and local heroes to step up for change.
Then came Tinian’s Breaking the Cycle: One Run at a Time Tournament on Febr. 22-23, where Team Koka showed heart both on and off the field.
And finally, Saipan closed it out with the Strikeout the Silence Tournament from March 7 to 9, uniting teams in purpose and play.
But these weren’t just games. They were moments of connection, healing, and awareness — using the love of softball to open conversations and provide resources for those impacted by violence in our community.
This would not have been possible without the passionate efforts of our community members and leaders.
A huge shoutout goes to Senate Floor Leader Donald Manglona, who volunteered his time and energy to support both the Rota and Saipan tournaments.
“Your commitment and presence on the field and in the community did not go unnoticed — thank you, Senator!
“We also want to give a big high five to Rota Municipal Councilman Jonovan Lizama, who not only helped organize the Rota tourney but stepped up as our chief umpire — keeping things fair, fun, and full of heart.
“And of course, thank you to all our volunteers, local businesses, families, and partnering agencies who donated their time, energy, and resources to make each event unforgettable.
“These tournaments were made possible through the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act Grant, and they serve as a reminder that we all have a role to play in ending violence and promoting respect, kindness, and safety in every village and every home.
