GARAPAN Central Park has been closed to the public after staff discovered that power lines leading to the facility were deliberately cut, according to the Division of Parks and Recreation.

Parks and Recreation Director Mike Cruz said employees conducting routine maintenance early Monday found that power to a pole and the park’s main service entrance had been severed, along with electrical lines feeding into the park’s main panel.

“This wasn’t an accident. Someone intentionally cut the power leading into the facility,” Cruz said. “We hope whoever is responsible is caught, because this kind of vandalism hurts the entire community.”

The damage forced the immediate closure of Garapan Central Park until repairs can be completed. Parks and Recreation did not provide a timeline for restoration but said updates will be shared as assessments continue.

The closure affects all public events, recreational use, and scheduled activities at the park.

Cruz said they are working with authorities to determine when the vandalism occurred and who may be responsible.
