DEAR Department of Public Works Secretary Ray N. Yumul:
I am writing in reference to previous letters dated April 8 and Aug. 29, 2025. This letter respectfully requests the Department of Public Works’ assistance in repainting the roadway markings along the following stretches of roads:
1) From the San Vicente Post Office to Facey Farms; and
2) Tanapag Mobil Gas Station to Marpi.
The roadway markings in the areas mentioned above have significantly faded over time, raising concerns about the safety of motorists and pedestrians who travel this route daily.
We also received calls from community members of the little to no roadway lighting in the areas from Kensington Hotel to Marpi.
The concern with the inadequate roadside lighting is the unsafe conditions it creates for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists who use that stretch of road at all hours of the day and night.
Several citizens have contacted the mayor’s office after seeing our public safety signage encouraging the community to report unsafe conditions with the “See Something, Say Something.” Initiative. Their attentiveness reflects strong civic engagement and underscores the importance of addressing this matter promptly.
The Mayor’s Office of Saipan is fully committed to supporting this initiative and stands ready to assist the Department of Public Works in any way necessary, to address the concerns of our community members.
Your continued partnership in maintaining safe and well-marked roads is deeply appreciated. I look forward to your favorable response and to working together on this important public safety measure.
Respectfully,
RAMON “RB” JOSE BLAS CAMACHO
Mayor of Saipan
