MANGO offers free virtual workshop on federal grant management and compliance

(Press Release) — MANGO is inviting nonprofit professionals, grant managers, and community members to participate in an upcoming free, public virtual workshop designed to strengthen skills in federal grant management and compliance.

Titled “Federal Grant Management: The Basics,” the two-hour session will be held on March 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. ChST. The workshop will provide participants with practical tools and guidance to effectively manage federal funding and avoid common compliance pitfalls.

Receiving a grant is just the beginning. Managing it effectively is where the real work begins.

This session offers an essential deep dive into the financial and compliance responsibilities tied to federal awards. Participants will explore how to navigate the full grant life cycle — from pre-award considerations to final closeout — while safeguarding their funding in an evolving regulatory environment.

Key topics include:

• The New Rules: Understanding FY 2025–2026 updates to 2 CFR Part 200 (Uniform Guidance), including the $10,000 equipment threshold and 15% de minimis indirect cost rate

• The Grant Life Cycle: Roles and responsibilities across every stage, from risk assessment to audit preparation

• Budget Precision: Aligning budgets using SF-424A (Non-Construction) and SF-424C (Construction)

• Audit Defense: Identifying compliance risks and implementing strong internal controls

Participants will also gain insight into the importance of project management, financial oversight, and cost allowability — key components to maintaining transparency and compliance across competitive, formula, and pass-through grants.

The workshop will be led by Patrick Maloney, GPC, a seasoned grant professional with more than 20 years of experience in fundraising and leadership. Maloney has secured over $50 million in government and foundation grants and has served as a federal grant reviewer for agencies including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Since 2019, he has supported Guam Community College as a grant writing professional, bringing specialized expertise in navigating funding landscapes across the Pacific Islands and Micronesia.

This is a special, one-time workshop opportunity and is open to the public at no cost.
