THE Democratic Party in the CNMI is criticizing President Donald Trump’s “deadly, illegal” and costly taxpayer-funded war on Iran.

On Monday, the local Democrats issued the following statement:

“One month ago, Donald Trump started his deadly, illegal, taxpayer-funded war against Iran that has already claimed the lives of nearly 1,500 Iranian civilians, 13 U.S. service members, injured hundreds more, and skyrocketed costs for NMI families who were already struggling to afford basic necessities due to Trump’s disastrous economic policies. Trump and JD Vance promised to lower costs on ‘Day One,’ but instead they’ve spent billions on bombs instead of health care and driven up NMI gas, health care, and grocery bills. As Trump continues this war of choice, Democrats are united in opposing this war, lamenting the loss of Iranian civilian life, and supporting our men and women in uniform, their families, and those being put in harm’s way.”

It was on Feb. 28, 2026, that the U.S. began attacking Iran.

Saturday, March 28, 2026, marked the first month since Trump and Vice President JD Vance launched “their deadly and costly war of choice with Iran,” the NMI Democrats said.

They noted that in just one month, U.S. and Israeli strikes have killed nearly 1,500 Iranian civilians, claimed the lives of at least 13 U.S. service members, and injured nearly 300 others, devastating families while sending prices soaring for Americans back home.

“People in the NMI were already facing sky-high prices and a historically bad job market, and now, Trump’s war is driving prices even higher, with gas prices skyrocketing to over $6 a gallon — and new reports estimating inflation will surge above four percent this year,” the NMI Democratic Party said.

They also urged people to note that more than 60% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s war of choice — including one in five Republicans — and that nearly the same number said the U.S. made the wrong decision in using military force in Iran.
