(CHCC) — The Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation’s Non-Communicable Disease Programs recently announced the successful completion of a Non-Communicable Disease Hybrid Survey Dissemination Workshop on Tinian and Rota.
During the two-day workshop, healthcare professionals, government representatives, and community members from across the islands came together to review critical data from the 2023 CNMI Non-Communicable Disease Hybrid Survey Report. The survey report presents the health status of the adult population in the CNMI. Community representatives from Rota and Tinian were able to analyze the data and develop a draft action plan to address NCD’s in the respective islands. The action plan will be finalized in the coming months.
The professional development segment of the workshops aimed to enhance workforce capacity and explore strategies for addressing the rising burden of non-communicable diseases in the community. Staff members from Rota Health Center and Tinian Health Center reviewed the health concerns raised by community members and discussed potential solutions. Such solutions include evidence-based screening protocols, patient education techniques, and appropriate intervention strategies. Moving forward, the next step is to coordinate efforts to effectively tackle the burden of chronic diseases in Rota and Tinian.
“The event was exceptionally well received, with participants actively engaging in dynamic activities and meaningful discussions. The exchange of knowledge and shared experiences fostered a stronger, more cohesive workforce, reinforcing our commitment to continuous growth and excellence in patient care.” said Keith Nabors, resident director of Tinian Health Center. “This milestone marks a significant step forward…, as it is the first time such a comprehensive training has been conducted. The success of this event is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved. A sincere thank you to all who contributed to making this event a resounding success.”
The professional development component featured specialized training in evidence-based screening protocols, patient education techniques, and appropriate intervention strategies. Healthcare professionals also collaborated on developing localized action plans that address the unique challenges facing each island community, including limited resources and cultural factors influencing health behaviors.
“Kudos to the team behind the Rota Hybrid Survey Dissemination Workshop and Rota Health Center’s Professional Development. This important event brought together community representatives and health professionals to review survey findings and explore ways to tackle chronic disease risks within Rota’s population,” said Vanessa Quitugua, resident director of Rota Health Center. “Rota Health Center’s staff worked collaboratively to define their vision and mission, setting a unified direction for future healthcare services. This workshop is a commendable step toward improving health and well-being in Rota.”
CHCC has committed to supporting the implementation of these action plans through technical assistance, resource allocation, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
The Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation and the Non-communicable Disease Program are dedicated to protecting and promoting the health and well-being of CNMI residents through disease prevention, health promotion, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
