THE two-time pennant champions, the Pirates, secured the no. 1 spot in the playoffs of the 2024 SBL Masters League after acquiring their eighth win of the season by overpowering the Brewers, 21-6, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Tuesday.

The Pirates played their final regular-season game with determination, delivering hit after hit.

Confidence brimmed right from the start as the bases quickly filled, with Pete Tomokane bringing in Mark Toves on an RBI double. Four consecutive runs followed with Derek Sasamoto, Jun Palacios, and Derron Flores each earning an RBI to extend their team’s lead to 5-0.

The Brewers answered with two runs in the bottom half, but the Pirates widened the gap in the second inning with a seven-run outburst. Sasamoto and Palacios each recorded an RBI double, while the Brewers managed only one run, leaving them trailing 12-3.

The Brewers had their best inning in the third, holding the Pirates to three runs while scoring three of their own.

Unfazed, the Pirates regained momentum in the top of the fourth inning, with five batters contributing RBI singles to drive in six runs. Meanwhile, the Brewers were held scoreless, and the game ended early via the 10-run mercy rule, 21-6.
