Celebrate Chinese New Year at JKPL

(JKPL) —  Joeten-Kiyu Public Library invites the community to celebrate Chinese New Year with a special family event featuring a lion dance, children’s read aloud and craft. The event will take place on Chinese New Year, Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025 from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at JKPL’s Children of Our Homeland, a.k.a. Children’s Library.

The celebration will kick off with a children’s read aloud and craft activity followed by a traditional lion dance performance in partnership with the Saipan Chinese Association. The lion dance is a traditional Chinese dance that is often performed during festivals and celebrations. The dance is believed to bring good luck and prosperity.

“We are excited to celebrate Chinese New Year with our community,” said Library Director Erlinda C. Naputi. “This event is a great way to learn about Chinese culture and traditions. We thank President Jerry Tan and the Saipan Chinese Association for their partnership and continued support of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library.”

The Chinese New Year celebration @Your Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact either Celina C. Foreman or Sina Palacios at (670) 235-7315. Please note that the Read Aloud and Craft activity is available while supplies last.
