THE Department of Public Safety has arrested Delyn James Cabrera, 19, for robbing a taxi operator with a knife on New Year’s Day.

According to DPS, on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, at 7:10 p.m., a robbery incident was reported at the Beach Garden Hotel on Chichirica Avenue in Garapan.

In a statement issued on Friday, Jan. 3, Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop said: “Preliminary investigations reveal that a female person had called for taxi services at the Beach Garden Hotel. Upon arrival of the taxi, a male person entered the car. As the taxi operator proceeded [in the] south direction, the male passenger grabbed the driver by the neck and demanded money while pointing a knife at him. The suspect later fled taking an undetermined amount of money with him. Officers had observed the taxi operator with cuts on both hands, and blood coming out of his nose.”

“The same evening,” Manacop added, “officers reviewed surveillance footage and later made contact with the suspect at a residence within close proximity of the Beach Garden Hotel.”

Manacop said the suspect, “identified as 19-year-old Delyn James Cabrera, later admitted to officers that he was responsible for the earlier reported incident. Cabrera was held and later released pending further investigation.”

On Friday, Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio issued an arrest warrant for Cabrera, who was charged with robbery.

Arrested at his Garapan residence, Cabrera is being held at the Department of Corrections on a $20,000 cash bail and is awaiting his initial court appearance, DPS said.
