CHCC’s James Phillips brings down the possession during a game in the 2024 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government/Business League at the Ada gym.

THE 2024 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government/Business League hosted exciting games on Tuesday with CHCC and E-Land notching thrilling victories over their respective opponents at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

CHCC stole the fizz from Coca Cola, 62-60.

Both teams were equally matched as they filled all four quarters with endless lead exchanges.

In the opening period, Coca Cola’s output was highlighted by Aeron Villacrusis and Manolito Basa with four points each while CHCC was led by Maverick Sarues, James Phillips and Kevin Leomo, who delivered a pair of buckets each to take the lead, 15-12.

CHCC’s reign was short-lived as Coca Cola quickly adjusted and gradually cooked up a run throughout the second quarter. Ball movement was the emphasis as the rest of the line-up earned their chance to contribute to the rally. Coming off the bench, Albert Atan, Jeffrey Yugummang, and Jun Escalada helped their team snatch control of the lead, 32-29.

The seesaw battle continued in the third quarter, which ended in a deadlock, 43-43.

In the end, only one team could remain standing.

Bernard Estoque, who barely made an impact throughout the night, was the trump card that Coca Cola needed as he suddenly exploded on the offensive end with nine points — including one triple — in the fourth and final quarter. However, it was still not enough to match up CHCC’s firepower as Sean Apasan and Jack Lizama maintained their efficiency while Apasan and Aling Ogumoro-Uludong split a pair of free throws to seal the deal, 62-60.

E-Land vs DFEMS

E-Land pulled a huge fourth-quarter comeback to overtake DFEMS, 81-76.

DFEMS was in the driver’s seat throughout most of the game.

The trio of Francisco Mizutani, Joseph Lifoifoi, and Mariano Aguon highlighted the offensive run for DFEMS, gradually gaining a double-digit advantage by the end of the third quarter, 63-52.

With one quarter remaining, E-Land saw it as a chance to make a comeback — and succeeded.

DFEMS suddenly fell into an offensive slump, plagued by unforced turnovers and missed shots. On the other end, E-Land capitalized, with Japhet Villegas and Reynaldo Bathan combining for 22 points to propel their team to an 81-76 victory.
