Mount Carmel School’s Jieun Kwon and Mia Abuan make their way down the court during a game in the girls high school division of the PSS-NMIBF Interscholastic Basketball League SY24-25 at the Ada gym.
MOUNT Carmel School notched their second straight win by trouncing Saipan Southern High School JV, 38-8, in the girls high school division of the PSS-NMIBF Interscholastic Basketball League SY24-25 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Monday.
With a well-rounded roster, MCS was an unstoppable force with a dominant first-half performance.
Audrey Quitugua, who opened the scoreboard with the first two buckets, acted as the sparkplug to MCS’ run as the rest of her teammates soon joined the scoring spree.
Patricia Matsumoto added range to the team’s arsenal with the only three-pointer of the day while Jieun Kwon took over the highlight reel by using her height to control the boards and capitalize with offensive putbacks to contribute eight points.
Although SSHS JV were constantly hounded by MCS on the defensive end, they continued to keep their heads up and were rewarded with two shots by Mikaenna Nishimura.
Down 4-25, SSHS JV reassessed their defensive strategy in the second half and reduced MCS’ output. However, they could not equalize on the offensive end and could only add four more points that were delivered by Nishimura. For their part, MCS’ Mya Pangelinan and Quitugua kept the safe distance with a pair of baskets each to seal the deal, 38-8.
In other games, SSHS V bagged their second consecutive by outplaying Marianas High School’s Junior Varsity team, 57-24, while Marianas High School V bested Kagman High School V, 40-18.
