THE Braves bagged the majors division championship title of the 2024 Natibu Sports Association Youth Baseball League after rallying past the Ol’Aces,12-7, at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Baseball Field on Sunday, June 16.
The Ol’Aces controlled the early half of the game as they picked their swings carefully and opted for a base on ball rather than a hit. Although the Braves quickly earned two outs, they struggled from the pitcher’s mound and committed infield errors, which allowed the Ol’Aces to slip in six runs while the Braves recorded no hits in the bottom half of the opening inning.
Down 0-6, the Braves turned the tide in the second inning and did not allow the Ol’Aces to score while notching three runs in the bottom half to close the distance, 3-6.
In the third inning, the Ol’Aces remained silent while the Braves capitalized off a handful of errors with seven more runs that were highlighted by Damian Sablan’s homerun followed by a two-run homer by Kaleb Reyes in the bottom of the fourth as the Braves took over the lead, 12-6.
The Ol’Aces had one last chance to stay in the game, but they scored a single run only in the top of the fifth inning before the Braves collected the three outs needed to claim the majors division championship, 12-7. The Braves also won the Pennant.
For their part, the Marlins claimed third place while the Pirates took home the Sportsmanship Award.
In the individual awards, John Fred was named the Season MVP while Elijah Babauta received the Championship MVP award.
The Batting Champ was Debron Saures; the Most Runs, Dayton Marchadesch; the Most Doubles, Dylan Barcinas; the Most Triples, Preston Santos; and the Most Homeruns, Jayton Dela Cruz.
Also on June 16, the Braves Jr. won the junior division title by trouncing the Phillies Jr., 11-4.
