National Conference of State Legislatures representative to brief NMI lawmakers, staffers

THE state liaison for the National Conference of State Legislatures, Arturo Perez is on island to brief the local lawmakers and the Legislative Bureau about the NCSL.

Perez is also the vice president of the NCSL State Services Division, which includes the Center for Ethics in Government, the Center for Legislative Strengthening, the Fiscal Affairs Program, the Legislative Staff Services Program and the State Tribal Institute.

He was scheduled to make a presentation Thursday, June 27, at 9 a.m. in the House chamber regarding the NCSL, the benefits and resources it offers to members and legislative staff.

In a memorandum last week, LB Director Perry John P. Tenorio said every state legislator or staffer who is a member of the NCSL has complete access to the latest bipartisan policy research, training resources and technical assistance tailored specifically to member-state’s needs.

Created by state legislators and legislative staff in 1975, the NCSL serves the 50 states and territories by, among other things, offering members a variety of opportunities to connect and collaborate at its signature event, the NCSL Legislative Summit.

Tenorio encouraged Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero, Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez, other lawmakers, their staff and the LB staff to attend the presentation which will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
